Why I record ALL phone calls and how I hope it will serve you too | Real Time Lead Gen Why I record ALL phone calls and how I hope it will serve you too | Real Time Lead Gen I know some of you guys answer your own phones yourselves personally, directly...that's great, there should still be some helpful info here for you too. To those of you that have internal staff and/or an external answering service that answers your phone, there will be additional insights. If the latter... Do you even know how many times a day your phone is ringing at all? Let alone HOW it's being answered, and how many of those calls are being converted into paying jobs? As the saying goes...you have to measure what matters...and tracking call stats MATTERS. WHO and HOW your phone is answered MATTERS And a crucial part of optimizing all of that of course is recording your phone calls. Let's address the first potential concern and get it out of the way...legalities It should be obvious common sense stuff here but, just in case, and to be totally clear...we're not talking about tapping phones or anything sleazy here. We've all heard the typical "Your call may be monitored or recorded for quality or training purposes" audible legal disclaimer when we call in to various businesses. That's all we're talking about here. There's different laws across different states as well as federally...they ALL obviously require at least one party to be aware of the recording. The homeowner calls the restoration company...they here the quick 3 second or so disclaimer and it rings thru to the company as normal. The other half of the party is referring to whoever is answering the phone...ie you or your staff. While I can see the appeal of trying to catch an idiot employee "in the act" of answering the phone poorly and then treating the customer like a jerk...I'd suggest not going that route. If for no other reason than potential, technical legalities... If you are in the position where that's even a thought...just let that person go and move on. Or tell them straight up you're starting to record calls for quality and training purposes and give them a shot. Think about it, that is INSTANT ACCOUNTABILITY. If they are unwilling or unable to act, or at least be trained to act, properly...at that point...it's an easy decision...buh-bye. To elaborate on the accountability part of this a bit more before moving on... There's the old expression "when the cats away the mice will play"...
